COUNTERPUNCH, MARCH 9, 2021

Abdulla Rozibaqiev, a Uighur Bolshevik

In a by now familiar pattern, Grayzone has taken up the cause of a powerful and oppressive state against a weaker enemy using a geopolitical litmus test. Since the USA has invaded and occupied dozens of Third World countries for over two hundred years, there’s no point in taking the side of any oppressed nationality or ethnic group since willy-nilly they are acting on behalf of Wall Street, the CIA, NATO, George Soros, ad infinitum, ad nauseam.

Why bother looking at the deeper historical roots of a conflict when all you need to do is dredge up some evidence that the State Department has paid off some dissidents. Long before Max Blumenthal and his cohorts launched Grayzone, Michel Chossudovsky had perfected this methodology at Global Research. When young people filled Tahrir Square in Cairo to demand the overthrow of Mubarak, Tony Cartalucci took Mubarak’s side in a Global Research article because the National Endowment for Democracy had funneled some cash to his opponents. I am surprised that Chossudovsky did not sue Grayzone for the theft of intellectual property.

  1. Anybody have any idea what characters he’s referring to with “huafeng” and “yishu?” Cause I can’t find any that would correspond to those translations.

  2. Huafeng is the transliteration of Hua (华, or China or Chinese in classic characters) and Feng(风, or styles or customs)。Huafeng (华风 written in classic Chinese) means Chinese-customized.

Similarly, yishu (义塾,or tuition-free private school in Qing dynasty, more than one hundred years ago) means letting people be publicly educated. Mark

  3. Crazy how much of the US left will defend every unsocialist deed by unsocialist China and Russia. If they once combated the US, they will forever be given a free pass. And when half of Hong Kong participated in mass demonstrations, they were all, young and old, rich and poor, following the dictates of the CIA. And proof was provided by a few members of HK rebel leadership meeting with US members of congress as if that could explain demonstrations attended by well over one million people. No wonder new converts to Marxism in the US are thin on the ground.

  5. Uyghur’s autonomous socialist government willingly and voluntarily joined the PRC in 1950. China was a victim of colonisation, and has never been a coloniser. You are very confused.

  6. You conveniently forget to mention that the area known as XInjiang today has on and off since the Han dynasty (202 BC-220 AD). The ethnic group known as “Uyghurs” settled in China AFTER the establishment of ISLAM, that is during the 9th c. AD. That’s right, the Uyghurs were the ones who are the settlers. … This is basic history, pls learn more history before having an opinion.

  7. You fucking remind me of how Rush Limbaugh used to excuse the genocide of American Indians by referring to Incan sacrifices, Lakota warfare against other tribes, etc. Or Zionists justifying their apartheid state by referring to the ancient kingdoms of Israel and Judea. The only people who believe this bullshit about the Uighurs. are red-browns like you.

  8. Leo Zhao, you are an ignoramus. Just because the Chinese lacked the power to colonise anywhere from the late eighteenth Century up to 1949, does not mean they did not before, and have not since, done so. What distinguishes them from the Europeans is that they have done it contiguously, not over a distance. As for Hugo Chavez, more off than on (how about 1500 years ago). And on that basis, how about English control of Ireland: 1173 to 1921, more on than off. Shall we return and assert our rights, for fucks’ sake. Or is it a matter of might over right. Or, something else: like we now recognise ruling other societies without their consent is mad, bad, and self-defeating – unless of course you eliminate or suppress them. Do tell.

  9. Very informative article, as usual.

The following article makes some valid points re. “liberal imperialism” but the author uses those to make his pro-China assertions.
