The logic of lesser-evilism

  1. Are you people serious? Look, if you wanted someone else as the Democratic Party candidate you’d have had to have been working towards that goal starting way back. You come into it now, this is what’s on offer. You folks owe it to the rest of us non-Americans’ who don’t get to vote for your presidents to not elect Donald Trump.

  2. Sorry emmryss, this is a communist website. Communists don’t support bourgeois candidates and parties under any circumstance. We are for the independence of the working class and the abolition of the bourgeois state.

In any event, even though we are weak at the moment, the working class is already largely independent from the bourgeoisie parties. Most workers don’t vote, and in fact more than half of the total population doesn’t either. In the last election around 32% of eligible voters actually went to the polls, and less than half of the total population is eligible to vote (felons, immigrants and young people are excluded).

I’m sure you don’t like America to tell your country what to do. We don’t like you to tell us how, or if, to vote either.

  3. And if we *don’t* want a Democratic Party Candidate? And what of the Sanders camp, who fought harder than any other candidate, only to be undermined by that very same “Democratic” Party? Is that really the long and short of your “argument”? And we owe it to the rest of the world not to elect Trump? Don’t know much about Hillary, then, I take it. But oh sweet baby Jesus, nobody ever suggest broadening democracy here in the States, cuz…um…this is what’s on offer…and stuff. So deal with…and such.

  4. It should also be pointed out that Hillary Clinton’s campaign promises include 1) working for a $12.50 an hour minimum wage (or maybe $15, the waffliness is annoying, but it beats the alternative, keeping it at $7.25), 2) working for progressive immigration reform, 3) working for criminal justice and police reform to end the prison industrial complex, 4) upholding a woman’s right to choose, 5) upholding international agreements to slow climate change — and that’s just a few things. Trump has 1) waffled between saying there should be no minimum wage or maybe keep it and raise it slightly above $7.25; 2) promised to “build a wall”; 3) promised to intensify “law and order” — ie. locking up as many people as possible, esp. non-whites, for ever on the slightest pretext), 4) pledged to help pro-lifers advance their agenda of enacting a fundamentalist caliphate based on sharia-style Bible-based law; 5) pledged to tear up all climate change agreements and pumping maximum C02 into the atmosphere. Seriously, this is a no-brainer.

  5. I would also add that Hillary Clinton is not a lesser evil. Trump is pretty much pure evil. She is, if anything, either a lesser good or a mixed bag.

  6. it is a no-brainer– evidence for no-brains being supplied by comments 1 and 5.
