Replace facile criticism with criticism of the facile: Guest Post from John Game on Syriza

The difficulty with many (not all) of the left critiques of Syriza is not their program but the lack of evidence that their argument has a social base. This doesn’t mean that I have confidence in the Syriza leadership in all they do but it does mean that I think the difficulty is not so much that they’re holding back an insurgent consciousness so much as they reflect it (and those who like to denounce reformism ought to know that this is always an aspect of how it works). And I think that poses all sorts of difficulties.
Too many of the denunciations are formalist in the sense that they imagine just being ‘logical’ and having the right ‘program’ is all. If you cannot connect your program to an actual historical movement its not really worth the paper its written on.

The whole dilemma as well as miracle of Syriza…

  1. Syriza really one has one option left, departing the Eurozone:

Hopefully, people won’t forget the harshness of what Merkel and the Germans have done. Tsipras was accommodating, because of the Greek populace’s support for the EU, which was the real winner of the referendum (over 70% of all voters want to remain in the EU). Merkel (along with LaGarde) responded by giving Tsipras the heel of the boot.

The destruction of any viable left alternative has always been the primary objective of Merkel and LaGarde. They are about to achieve it because of their willingness to allow a complete Greek economic collapse to get what they want. They would let people starve to attain their political objective. In Merkel’s case, it should cause people to make some unpleasant historical comparisons.

  3. SYRIZA doesn’t exist anymore. The Left Platform is going to be fired, and Tsipras will take on PASOK types. There won’t be a Left government in Europe for generations because of this rout. People calling for a SYRIZA model should take realistic stock, the party failed at every single one of its goals in a shockingly short time span.

  4. So what model do you prefer, purple? The Spartacist League? Socialist Equality Party? Revolutionary Communist Party?
