  1. Apples and carrots. The SWP doesn’t promote their website hardly at all, mostly because Jack and Alice need that big money from press sales to keep coming in. The WSWS is ranked 43,251 in the world. If these kind of rankings really mattered or meant anything then your post from a few days ago about how terrible the WSWS is would be rendered superfluous.

Plus Alexa is practically useless for looking at socialist sites. They determine their traffic numbers by following the traffic of a select number of people with their tool bar, sort of the way Neilson tracks the TV viewing habits of a select few “normal” families. Most “normal” white middle American middle class 2.1 child families wouldn’t want any connection to a socialist site anymore than any socialist with a brain would install an Alexa toolbar.

  2. Apples and carrots is right. A personal blog versus a national organization is part of the point.

Any bias in the Alexa toolbar is from self-selection to install the browser plug-in. Although, that’s a low threshold for entry. The truth about Nielsen is that they openly divulge their demographics — “normal white American middle class” or otherwise. Advertisers and marketers operate on it, thus the transparency.

Alexa tries to use all the traffic they can it seems. They only reason to not trust the statistical significance of Louis’s comparison is for mathematical reasons as admitted by Alexa itself.

So left web sites probably will continue to suffer from the same lack of precision or accuracy because of their fringe popularity. Collection methods don’t enter yet.

Google PageRank has both sites at a 5, which at least confirms Louis’s point that they’re in the same tier.
