  1. It’s one thing to critique the media spin on this issue, and to state that Allen is legally innocent until proven guilty and therefore there shouldn’t be a media court, but it is quite another to buy into whether or not Dylan is telling the truth about being abused by Allen, based on the investigation by alleged “experts.” Dylan made the abuse claims then at 7, and has emphatically made them again now as a woman in her mid-20’s, with nothing special to gain by piping up now. The point of posting this “evaluation” is unclear. It concludes she could not have been abused by Allen, but rather that she was either undergoing childish delusions, or the evil, vengeful, jealous mother implanted the idea in her head and forced her to say it. I’ll tell you what, for some of us who know actual abuse victims, we’ve heard both those spins before, especially the “evil bitch of a mother one.” And we know not only how inherently unlikely it is, but also in the specific cases how manifestly untrue, even impossible, it is. That does not rule out it being the case, as an exception, in this case – but the casual way the “evaluation” decides it must be either of these two scenarios, and definitely not the usually most likely scenario (ie, that abuse occurred), is rather suspicious, possibly even going beyond their brief. Moreover, in claiming to “rule out” this third scenario, that Dylan was telling the truth, the report says that there were inconsistencies in Dylan’s accounts of the story, and that she “appeared to struggle with how to tell about the touching.” Wow – imagine a 7 year old child, having been sexually abused by her father, surrounded by all kinds of adult experts, appearing to struggle with telling the story, and for there to be inconsistencies! Once again, entirely expected, entirely normal, and again for those who know such actual real live cases, yes, we know, bits of the story vary, the child is bewildered, the child struggles, the child appears to mix fantasy with reality – exactly as one would expect. “Her story telling was quite elaborate and fantasy-like at times” – yep, all very familiar.

I don’t know what happened and I don’t intend to be a court of law. But I’m not sure what this post is supposed to contribute.

I think that my blog is the only outlet on the left that has made an effort to look at the case critically. My longer post on Orth’s reporting is my main contribution to this debate. The Yale-New Haven report and the lead investigating physician’s CV are supplementary material.

I am absolutely convinced that Woody Allen is innocent. The Yale-New Haven finds that Dylan is not to be believed. In addition to that, the very psychotherapist that skunks like Maureen Orth keep quoting against Allen told the court under oath that Woody Allen had zero interest in Dylan sexually and that the kid was so prone to fantasy that it would color her perception of an apple tree. Now this psychotherapist was not Woody Allen’s. She was Mia Farrow’s and likely to be someone much more partial to her than him. Allen’s witch hunters keep harping on his defenders being on his payroll but they have never engaged with this devastating rebuttal of their case.

  3. It is disheartening to find so many outlets on the left presuming Mr. Allen to be guilty. Like most people when I heard about these allegations and the words from Dylan Farrow I assumed him to be guilty. After digging deeper into the facts and considering all sides of the story I don’t think so anymore. Anyone can accuse anybody of anything. Considering the severity of the accusations I think that there is a strong burden of proof that lies on the accusers. If we are to take these allegations seriously and respect there vicious nature and there consequences on a child then we should be equally respectful in our judgement of the individual accused and the consequences if in fact innocent. Considering that Mr. Allen has never been accused of, or shown any pattern for this kind of behavior before or since this accusation, it seems unlikely that he would act in this manner in such a brief window of time while in a social setting surrounded by the family of his estranged partner. Meanwhile, Mia Farrow seems to have very strong reasons to want to libel Mr Allen. I am curious what the behavior patterns are for convicted pedophiles and what their track records indicate for repeated transgressions. Anyways, it is nice to see someone doing honest reporting. Thanks.

  4. When we’ve finished falling on our knees before the Farrow lie machine, we can go back and reconvict the Scottsboro Boys. What a shocking injustice history has done to Ruby Bates and Victoria Price!

The affair with Soon Yi and subsequent marriage may shock contemporary prudes. It wouldn’t have shocked Godwin or Shelley. People have lost the ability to think.

  5. thanks for posting this. in the 80’s there developed this idea that ‘children don’t lie’ in the context of abuse claims [this the era of the mcmartins]. as someone who worked with small children at the time, i can remember in professional trainings being told exactly that; it was a commonplace assertion. of course the emperor had no clothes – children lie all the time, though they might lie differently than adults.

what children will do is tell adults what they think the adults want to hear.

aside from this, allen does not seem to fit any profile of any pedophile. they don’t suddenly begin in their older age and then just as suddenly stop. there has never been any other claim of allen abusing a child, even from those that might jump on a bandwagon after a first claim.

  6. Anti-pedophilia is the anti-communism of our time. People just aren’t all that excited by the GWOT.

  7. Although I’ve abstained from making any fixed judgment on this case, I’d have to say that Moses Farrow throws an important wrench into the matter. Many of those who are enthused about pronouncing Allen to be guilty have ignored Moses Farrow and have instead expressed indignation at the suggestion that Mia Farrow could have manipulated Dylan Farrow. But that is easier to believe in than the suggestion that Allen has manipulated Moses. Moses had been hostile to Allen at a younger age when he was in the supervision of Mia. His decision to break away from Mia’s denunciations of Allen can not be attributed to his being brainwashed by Allen, since Allen was not in a position to somehow control Moses. Nor is it the result of him somehow growing up in awe and admiration of Allen. Moses’ testimony is significant here and can’t be brushed aside the some would like to do.

As far as the Soon Yi affair goes, there’s a lot of silly prudishness around that. People who are 18 or over have the right to fuck, at least as long as they have the right to vote. If one really believes that someone 18 years old is too immature to take responsibility for getting laid with an older person then the voting age should be moved up to 30 to reflect that. Alternatively, if we really believe that someone who reaches 50 is hereafter too degenerate to be allowed to get banged with the younger ones, then voting should be restricted to people under 50. Since nobody has ever proposed anything like this it is better to apply the same rules to sex and simply allow that people who reach 18 are hereafter adults and must take responsibility for any decisions they make that are not coerced.
