  1. Overall, a pretty good documentary in my opinion. In the first place, it seems fairly rare that we encounter what I would loosely term youtube style documentaries from a leftist perspective. It is also interesting to me that the particular rehoster of this video is youtube user “styles911truth,” who for obvious reasons appears to be part of the truther cluster that is quite embedded within the internet. Perhaps this is a signal that there is a sort of crisis of theory within that particular group about how to interpret the complexity of the current global situation? I have some personal friends here in ole Tennessee that tune into Coast to Coast AM that have expressed a general tendency of frustration with things like Infowars, Alex Jones and the ilk (“Alex Jones is a CIA plant!”) as well as the inarticulate libertarian strain of politics that goes hand in hand with that way of thinking.

Something else this movie got me thinking about is how banking/lending would work under a socialist system. As one of the commentators in the film points out, it is obviously quite necessary that people need to have a place where they can put savings and easily withdraw money. Of course, it is also quite apparent that for people to earn a living from their creative labor there must be a source of lending or gifting, especially to initiate such projects, the end strategy being that at some point there is no need for such lending because exchange can occur on a legitimate basis with people actually controlling productive forces and so on. I mean of course yes “fuck the bankers” and such but you don’t have to be a genius to figure out that there is a difference between your local bank or credit union and Citi, and indeed something that the former loses out on as the latter gains with the general tendency of capital to consolidate in to fewer hands.
