Did you catch the NPR report on the Chinese Worker Protests this morning?

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=130078240

It has this gem from a Chinese activist:

“Karl Marx was right. We should struggle like he said in 19th century Europe. Chinese factories now are just like factories in 19th century Europe. And just like Karl Marx said, only through struggle with the capitalists can we gain our rights,” Liu says.

I think we’re headed into interesting times.

  1. ‘China insider sees revolution brewing’
China’s top expert on social unrest has warned that hardline security policies are taking the country to the brink of ”revolutionary turmoil”.

In contrast with the powerful, assertive and united China that is being projected to the outside world, Yu Jianrong said his prediction of looming internal disaster reflected on-the-ground surveys and also the views of Chinese government ministers.

He cited statistics showing the number of recorded incidents of ”mass unrest” grew from 8709 in 1993 to more than 90,000 in each of the past three years.

”More and more evidence shows that the situation is getting more and more tense, more and more serious,” Professor Yu said.

  2. This story illustrates one of the most important lessons for the U.S. and European labor movement: “if workers say they’ve had enough and leave — as they are beginning to do — wages will rise. If strikes increase, and bosses relent, wages will also rise, with all the implications that could bring.” The imperialist bosses of the “West” have successfully bullied, cajoled, “educated”, and fooled working people into thinking that if we go on strike or organize pro-working class action that all we will lose is our jobs and security. In fact, organizing, uniting, and demonsrating our resolve to gain the outcomes we need will “bully” (that’s the capitalist’s belief), cajole, and educate (we fool no one) ourselves into the only real solutions out of captialist-inspired crises. October 2nd in Washington D.C. promises to be an excellent school for the education of working people build thier working class knowledge, exercise their working class muscles, and begin their graduation to a new level of working class militancy in our historic march to working class power. It is these lessons, the lessons of Chines workers and the hard lessons in our class’s re-education, that those of us with the advanced foresight and will that must be brought to every arena no matter how stacked the deck (the dais) is by bourgeois liberal leaders and capitalist politicians. It is our time to show up, it is our time to discuss, explain . . . teach: every chance we get. Change is coming, we must bring it.
