Iranian government takes note of MRZine support

posted as a comment on MRZine by Ramin:

“Monthly Review Reported: Collaboration of Iranian capitalists, Americans, and Zionists against Ahamadinejad.”

This the headline of today’s front page of the Islamic Republic News Agency’s website that is the voice of Ahmadinejad government. What follows is the Farsi translation of a long excerpt of Phil Wilayto’s article, together with his picture, currently posted on MRZine.

Who would have thought that Ahamadinejad government would one day resort to an article on “Monthly Review” to justify its legitimacy? Let’s hope anyone who has ever been in trouble with respect to Monthly Review in Iran, receives an official pardon. Good job Yoshie. Keep posting to make “Monthly Review” a household name in Iran.

  1. Alaa Al Aswany, an Egyptian novelist who opposes the Mubarak regime, had a piece in the London Guardian, July 21st. He asked, “The west was up in arms at Iran’s elections. Yet Egypt’s have been rigged for years. Why hasn’t that provoked such anger?”

  2. Or why hasn’t the coup in Honduras, which the organized working class there has responded to with mass strikes and demonstrations, either.

And that goes for “left” coverage as well.

  3. Al Aswany goes on to contrast the tears shed in the west for Neda Soltan and the little attention paid to the murder of a Muslim woman named Marwa, in Germany in a Dresden courtroom. A German had been brought to trial for attacking her because she wore a hijab. In court he stabbed her to death and tried to kill her husband as well. Al Aswany wonders why we don’t call this man a “terrorist” and wage a “war on terror” against his kind.

  4. “and tried to kill her husband as well”

On Lenin’s Tomb I believe, it was reported that police shot the husband who was trying to save his wife! I guess he fit the “terrorist” profile.

  5. Collaboration of Iranian capitalists, Americans, and Zionists against Ahamadinejad.

Ahamadinejad has privatized something like 169 businesses, with plans to privatize a few hundred more.

Some can’t see the start of a revolution, if it hit them on the head.
